Hello! My name is Madeline. I have been doing bunnies in 4-H for 3 years now and it has so far been my favorite project that I have done with animals in 4-H. I was 3 when I got my first bunny, his name was Cosmo and he was a mix of stuff!! When I was 7 he got an infection and died. I loved him so much.
Years later me and my mom were doing yard work and we heard this horrible screaming. We both looked up to find my cat Holly tossing around something, so I went to go look and see what it was. It was a tiny little bunny. I called my mom over and put Holly inside. My mom kept the bunny close while I went to grab gloves and a basket to put it in. I ran outside and picked it up and put it in the basket. That day we weren't supposed to go to town but we did so that we could get kitten replacement milk so the bunny could eat. When we left, Holly got outside. We found Holly with another bunny so we did the same thing that we did the first time. My mom thought that Holly found a nest so we put them in the same basket. After we fed them we did some research about them, and found that the white spot on their head meant that they still needed their mother's milk. The next day I went out to feed them and one had passed. I was every sad. Once I was done feeding the other bunny, I wanted to pick an name. I picked Zippy because it was really fast. A couple days after, my friend came over and wanted to know if it was a buck or doe and I said I had know idea. So she checked for me and she said that it was a buck(male). Zippy grew fast. By the time fall came he was ready to be on his own so my mom and I agreed to let him go that weekend, but it was too late. He had died of the cold. Winter just came to fast.
I am know 13 years old and have 16 rabbits. I hope to get more.
If you go to the" pictures as they grow" page you will get to see the litters that I have had. My litter last time had three. Two bucks and one doe. They all took after their dad, all black with gray feet. Can you guess who it is?! Yep you were right! Dad was Black Jack, mom was Gypsy and they looked nothing like her. I was really surprised. And really looking forward to having something other than black. But I was fine with what I got. The day they were born I was still getting over being sick.
The week before her due date, I would wake up and see if she had had them yet. Then June 9, 2015 she had them. I put my hand inside the nesting box and felt something warm and kind of wet, so I knew the were just born a couple hours ago. Then I ran inside as fast as I could and woke my mom up. Then we both went out and found one born out side the box, so I picked it up and tried to warm it, but it wasn't working. My mom went and grabbed a heat pack and then the little kit started to warm up. After a while we stuck it back with the others. It LIVED.
Me and my first rabbit Cosmo!! love you little dude!!
